El Presidente Felipe Calderón hizo una mención especial para el marchista, medallista mundial, Éder Sánchez, luego de entregarle el Premio Nacional de Deportes. Calderón Hinojosa destacó su carrera como competidor destacado en el plano internacional, y en especial, su carrera en el Ejército Mexicano.

“Eder es reconocido como el mejor marchista del mundo este año por la Asociación Internacional de Federaciones de Atletismo y le dio a México el bronce mundial de los 20km de marcha en Berlín 2009. Es un deportista de excelencia. Y algo que a mí me honra mucho, es que es un digno integrante del Ejército Mexicano. Y felicito, desde luego, a Éder”, comentó el Primer Mandatario, quien recordó que el mexiquense fue ascendido en septiembre pasado a Sargento Segundo de Transmisiones.

El Jefe del Ejecutivo destacó, además, la labor del padre y entrenador, Víctor Sánchez, quien es también sargento en el Ejército Mexicano.

“Ahora que ha ascendido a sargento, quiero también recordar a alguien que ha sido muy importante en la vida de Éder, que también es miembro del Ejército. Trabaja con empeño y con una gran modestia como Subteniente en el Ejército Mexicano: Víctor Manuel Sánchez Guerrero, y que es su padre, y además es su entrenador. Subteniente: con toda mi admiración para ustedes; desde luego, Éder: a seguirle echando muchas ganas”, agregó el Presidente.

Luego recibir de manos del Primer Mandatario el Premio Nacional de Deportes, la mañana de este viernes, en la Hondonada de la Residencia Oficial de Los Pinos, Sánchez Terán agradeció el reconocimiento.

“Me siento contento, estas palabars me alientan más a seguir adelante en la marcha, espero ganar muchos premios más con la mentalidad de no ponerme barreras. Es muy congratulante que nos reconozca el Presidente como miembros de las Fuerzas Armadas, estamos agradecidos con ellas y orgullosos de pertenecer a ellas”, dijo el andarín de 23 años de edad.

Éder Sánchez, Sargento Segundo de Transmisiones en el Ejército Mexicano, fue reconocido en septiembre pasado por la Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional con la Condecoración al Mérito Deportivo de 1/a Clase y es el primer militar, desde el año 2001 que recibe el Premio Nacional de Deportes.
El entrenador de pentatlón moderno, Arturo Aguirre Dikinson, en 2001, fue el último representante del ejército que recibió el máximo galardón del Gobierno Federal al deporte mexicano; antes de él, fue otorgado al marchista, medallista olímpico, y también tío de Éder, Joel Sánchez (2000); en 1998 lo recibió el equipo de Pentatlón Moderno, conformado por Abdías Salazar, Sergio Salazar y Horacio de la Vega, junto con la fondista Nora Leticia Rocha, también militar; en 1991 Josué Ortega y en 1990 Ivar Sisniega, ambos de pentatlón moderno.

Logros: En 2005, aún como atleta juvenil, el mexiquense culminó en el octavo sitio de los 20km de marcha atlética del Campeonato Mundial de Atletismo de Helsinki, Finlandia, en 2005; Subcampeón Centroamericano y del Caribe en Cartagena de Indias, Colombia en 2006; cuarto lugar en el Campeonato Mundial de Atletismo de Osaka, Japón 2007.
En 2008 consumó el bronce de la Copa del Mundo de Marcha, celebrada en Cheboksary, Rusia, marcando el mejor crono de su carrera deportiva, en los 20km: 1:18.34 horas, tres meses después se ubicó en el sitio 15 en los 20km de los Juegos Olímpicos de Beijing 2008.
Esta temporada ganó la medalla de bronce en el Campeonato Mundial de Atletismo de Berlín, Alemania; además, en todas las competencias internacionales en que se presentó en 2009 ascendió al podio: oro en World Challenge de Chihuahau, Chihuahua; bronce en Wixi, China, bronce en La Coruña, España y bronce en Saranks, Rusia; en esta última rompió el récord nacional de los 10km con 38.57 minutos; estos resultados le valieron ser reconocido como el ‘Mejor Marchista del Año’ por la Asociación Internacional de Federaciones de Atletismo.
En su carrera como juvenil, el mexiquense fue Campeón Centroamericano en 2002, Subcampeón Panamericano Juvenil en 2003; Subcampeón Mundial Juvenil en 2004;
